I really have been wanting to play Settlers of Catan, all the cool kids are playing it. Lets do that instead of the whole radio thing. Also, have you played the scifi version of Risk? It looks kinda cool.
yeah, settlers is really fun. I've only played the 3 versions of RISK that I mention (and Thermonuclear RISK which is an interesting varient invented by my brother-in-law). I was surprised to see how many versions there were on that page. It didn't have castle risk there, though.
I played "Perudo" as a drinking game in Taiwan, except it was called something rude. One night I ended up playing a local guy who didn't speak any english, and I kept getting drunker and drunker because no WAY was I going to let this guy win, but he was lying shamelessly and so eventually I was on the floor. But I did learn my Chinese numbers pretty well, so that was a plus.
Thanks for the games post. I'm definitely gonna look into some of those.
We've only got a couple of games so far. RummyKub (pronounced RummyCube) and Jenga are the two favorites. Most people know Jenga, it's pretty straight forward. Take a block from the bottom of this bigass tower and stack it on the top until it falls. It's nice cuz the games are pretty quick. In RummyKub, each person has 14 tiles. Each tiles has a colored number (blue, black, red, orange from 1-13) on it. The point is to make 'sets' (3+ tiles with the same number in different colors (red 8, blue 8, black 8 )) or 'runs' (3+ tiles of the same color sequentially numbered). It tends to start out kinda slow, but gets interesting as you have more things on the table. You can add to, take away from, or break up sets on the table to complete new sets of your own. The point is to be the first one to get rid of all your tiles (when you have nothing to put down as a set, you have to draw a tile from the pool). Oh, I also own Star Wars Trivial Persuit, but I have a hard time convincing anyone to play with me. Can't figure out why...
those themed trivial pursuits are just as impossible as the original version. I've played Saturday Night Live Trivial Pursuit, and it was impossible. You really have to be a fanatic to answer even a small fraction of the questions.
Cyndi reminded me of one of my favorite games Quoridor, so I added that to the list.
Cyndi has this infuriating habit of beating me the second time we play a game. For example, I taught her how to play chess and she beat me on the second game.
Now, I just don't teach her games any more.
My favorite game that he taught me is air hockey. I love me some air hockey.
