Holy crap, I thought you were joking! Is that how you got a piece of his shirt?
Sorry about your job.
Nope, he tore off his shirt and threw it into the crowd right where I was. There was quite a struggle to rip it to shreds and a security guard started to come over to break it up. I pulled out my keys and made some holes to let it tear apart.
When the first security guy let go of me and I ran back, the guy who stopped me did so with a hand to the throat. It was sore and red the whole next day.
What possesses a person to do this? Obviously you aren't embarrassed, but I am.
Not especially because it's you, mostly that it's anyone. Who the heck is Morrissey anyways?
Some people do it out of pure hero-worship, but I mainly did it because it's silly and would make a funny story. You're right, though, I'm not embarassed by it--it was silly and fun, what's to be embarassed about?
Ummmmm.... I hardly know what to say? Totally incredible! Something I definitely don't understand. Must be a generation thing.
I don't know about it being a generational thing. I think fans have gotten over-excited and acted silly over musicians and for a long time.
My kids are convinced that you are very lucky that you weren't arrested. Cyndi told me about the incident and I've even smelled the Morrissey shirt, but nothing prepared me for the actual video footage. Jeff and I laughed for about an hour. It sure brings back a lot of concert memories. I'm pretty sure I've outgrown being that crazy...it's good to know some of us haven't!
The first guy who got on stage really got man-handled by security and if he hadn't fallen back into the crowd, would've definitely been ejected from the show. After that, Moz left the stage for a minute and when he came back, security was a little (and I stress little) friendlier.
Best one-liner ever. From a guy at the (Ben's old, my current) office when Ben told this story:
"So just how hot is this Morrissey chick, anyway?"
I'm surprised how cool Morrissey was with all these guys tackling him. He had like 3 guys on him at one time. I think if I was in the audience (I'm never in the general admission section) I would be annoyed at people interrupting the concert. But I admire your guts. You are seriously one of my coolest cousins.
Thanks, Cassie!
The funny part is that there was no general admission to this show. We had seats about 25 rows back but snuck up to the aisle between the fourth and fifth rows. Security tried to get us and the 100 other people to go back to our seats, but everyone just ignored them. Then, randomly, security let several people (including us) go up into the center aisle between the first four rows--right against the stage. For the most part, the stage invasion doesn't actually interrupt the show. Occasionally, as in this case, it'll do so, but just for a short time. Usually, Moz just keeps on singing.
that was a great laugh. Wow! lucky boy. I am so jealous. Morissey and Robert Smith in one life time.
